Psalm 119:132-135
Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name. Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant and teach me they statutes.
For well over a year now, I have meditated and prayed through each section of Psalm 119. I have actually worked on memorizing each section (still working on that part) and have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons I have learned and the growth I have experienced. The section above has been my meditation this past week and I have used it as I have prayed over this new year ahead. Here are my 7 requests:
- I pray for increasing fellowship with my God and Savior. “Look thou upon me” is a cry for closeness and fellowship. It is the idea of a child desiring to spend time with its father. “Look at me, daddy;” or “Watch this, daddy,” are all cries I have heard from my own children who want my time and attention and affection. That is what I also want from my God in this year ahead.
- I pray for His mercy. The more I know my own weaknesses and failures the more I recognize my need of His mercy.
- I pray for His direction. “Order my steps in thy word.” I want to make every decision by looking to Him and following His Word and His leading.
- I pray for victory. “Let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” I want victory over my tongue and my temptations. I want victory in regards to my purity. I want to be more Christlike than I have been in the past! I pray for victory in this new year.
- I pray for deliverance. Specifically, the psalmist is asking for deliverance from other people. Like the Apostle Paul, I want to be delivered from “unreasonable and wicked men” (2 Thess. 3:1-2). I want to be delivered from the fear of man so that I can follow God in absolute obedience to His leading and directing in my life.
- I pray for favor. “Make thy face to shine upon thy servant.” I want God to bless me, and keep me, and to give me peace (cf. Num. 6:22-27). I want to please Him and I want to be blessed by Him.
- I pray for growth. “Teach me thy statutes” is how David says it! I want to learn God’s word and apply it to my life so that the Holy Spirit can use it to make me more like Jesus Christ. I want to grow more this year because I still gotta long way to go! So I am praying for growth.
Pray with me if you would like. And pray for me too! I need it.
What are you praying for this in this new year? Let me know and I will pray with you too.
Thanks for reading.
