Healing Steps Regarding Racism and Racial Injustice

Racism and Racial Injustice are once again at the forefront across our land.  Do we have issues involving racism and racial injustice? We undoubtedly do, whether it is based on “the way we were raised” or “the way we have always done things” or some other reason entirely.  Are there churches that would frown on black families joining them?  There are. Are there Christians who speak unkindly of people whose skin color is different from there’s? Yes.  Are there steps we could take to bring healing to this issue in our lives, churches, and communities?  I believe so. Would you join me in at least acknowledging that these issues exist and in perhaps joining me in the following resolutions:

My Resolutions Regarding Racism and Racial Injustice

Whereas many have treated others with prejudice, bias, unkindness, and injustice – I condemn, reject, and repent of such behavior;

Whereas many have made unwise and unBiblical statements based on these prejudices, biases, unkindnesses, and injustices – I also condemn, reject, and repent of such statements;

Whereas I believe that all are created equal in the sight of God and should always be treated as such, I furthermore resolve that:

I will do unto others as I would have them do unto me;

I will love my neighbor as myself;

I will endeavor to treat every person with kindness and respect;

I will invite every person, regardless of the color of their skin, to attend my church and will do everything in my power to accept them and serve them;

I will invite any person who is born-again through Jesus Christ, regardless of the color of their skin, to join my church, serve God in my church, and enjoy fellowship in my church family as well as in my home;

I will in no way treat a fellow-believer differently because of his or her skin color, and I will kindly and gently challenge and rebuke those who do;

I will endeavor to overcome the generations of prejudices and biases that has damaged humanity, the Gospel, and the church;

I will seek to understand the hurts caused by prejudice, bias, unkindness, and injustice and will seek to do everything in my power to help heal those hurts.

I will pray for my church to become an integrated church where no one is rejected or mistreated because of the color of their skin.

These are my resolutions regarding racism and racial injustice –

So help me God!

Thanks for reading.

Your sincere friend,

Dave Young
