New Year’s Goals 2023

It’s that time of year – time for some new year’s resolutions!  Our family discussed those last night in our evening devotions.  One of our kids wants to read more.  Another wants to read through the entire Bible. My Bethlie wants to read more “spiritual” books.  And our list can go on and on.  This year, I chose two.

I want to do more to see people come to faith in Jesus Christ.  I want to speak to more people about the gospel. I want to hand out more tracts. I want to preach the gospel more and I want to do a better job of doing so. I want to do more to win some specific people whom I have been praying for.  I just want to be a better soul-winner.

I also want to live Titus 2:11-12.  Paul wrote that “the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.”  I want God’s grace.  I want to deny ungodliness and worldliness – in my own life, and in this world where I live. I want to live a life that is serious and righteous. I want to exercise myself to godliness because I know that “godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).

Would you pray for me about these two goals?  I would be grateful!

What are your goals?  I would love to hear from you about yours.

Thanks for reading.

Your sincere friend,

Dave Young

  1. The goals that you and your family have for 2023 are awesome goals and I will be praying the the Lord to help you all with each one. I personally want to apply some of the truths and principles learned from the KIY podcast to my family life. The 2 main principles is spending quality time with my family and joining my wife in teaching our children to love and serve the Lord.

I have been reading a book of quotes from Adrien Rogers for reflection before bed. One of the quotes he mentioned was from R.A. Torrey, “I’d like to ask what right any man has to call himself a follower of Jesus Christ if he is not a soul winner.” This quote has gripped my heart because I am not a soul winner like I need to be in accordance to the Word of God.

I have set goals to learn automation control to finish out my career. It has been a fun and challenging endeavor. Some days the challenges make me wander if this focus is a good idea.

I will be looking forward to how the Lord will use us and the people you come in contact this year!

  2. Nice goals Dr Young! My resolutions for the last couple of years has been to know my God better. I definitely achieved those goals! This year God laid it on my heart to start a 365 day devotional book. Which, if it’s His will, maybe I’ll get it published! 🤷‍♂️

  3. This is a nice list. Mine, though not detailed, consists of abiding more on the vine (John 15) and what that looks like. Also to be less critical, more loving, and open minded with things that don’t really matter. Since I got saved 20 years ago, it’s always been (2 Timothy 2:24-26). Share Christ more, use social media less, and perhaps the Lord will make His fruit grow.
