The battle for purity is won in the heart.
Have you ever read through Proverbs 4, 5, 6, and 7? Solomon does a lot of talking to his son about purity. I read through these chapters again today and noticed Solomon’s frequent references to the “heart.” This word, as I suspect you likely know, is about our thinking, emotions, and decisions. Notice how Solomon mentions this over and over again:
Guard your thoughts your emotions and your decisions.
Proverbs 4:23. Keep thy HEART with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.
Make right decisions so that you never have to deal with regret.
Proverbs 5:12 And say, how have I hated instruction, and my HEART despised reproof.
Always Listen to good counsel.
Proverbs 6:20-21. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine HEART, and tie them about thy neck.
Stay away from that which is not yours to have (don’t lust).
Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine HEART; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Keep off any path that leads to impurity.
Proverbs 7:25 Let not thine HEART decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
God, help us to continually protect and guide our thoughts, our emotions and our decisions. Help us to hide your word in our hearts that we might never sin against you. Help us to win.
Thanks for reading.
