Hate is a very negative word in our culture. Hate speech and hate crimes are just a few of the negative and cultural ways the word is now being used. Even so, it is an important word in the battle for purity. Consider these verses:

Psalm 97:10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil:

Detest evil. Abhor evil. Reject evil. Resist evil.  Hate it.  Notice that our hatred for evil is to be as strong as our love for our God.

Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside:

Here is a definite decision regarding things that are wrong.  I refuse to look at them.  I hate the work of those who are evil.  “O be careful little eyes what you see . . .” is made possible by my hatred of that which will lead me astray. 

Psalm 119:104  Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

God’s word brings understanding to our lives and will lead us to hate every thing that is deadly and damaging.  

Psalm 119:113  I hate vain thoughts, but thy law do I love.

The psalmist hates wrong (empty) thoughts, but loves God’s word! This verse reminds me of Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, my brethren, whatsoever things are true, . . . honest, . . . just, . . . lovely, . . . pure, . . . of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Psalm 119:128  Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

Do you hate the lies of porn? Of adultery? Of fornication? Of immoral entertainment? They are wrong every single time. On the other hand, God’s way is right every single time!

Can you see how that hate is an important word in the battle for purity?  Ask God to help you to hate sin.  Ask God to help you to detest immorality in all of its forms.  Make a list of all the reasons you should hate porn and its evil influences. Hate can be a powerful weapon in your battle for purity!
